Educational Theater in the Spanish Classroom
Dates: August 29, 2025 | November 21, 2025 | February 27, 2026
Format: In-person
Description:
Many Spanish teachers face the challenge of student disengagement, especially when lessons are delivered in a traditional, lecture-based manner or when the teacher struggles to make complex or less exciting topics accessible and interesting. This disengagement often leads to diminished student motivation and reduced language retention.
This course offers a practical, research-informed solution by guiding educators to approach lesson design through the lens of theatrical play construction. Using a structured educational theater framework, teachers will learn how to transform standard curricular content into interactive, student-centered performances. This model integrates storytelling, character development, and embodied language use to foster both linguistic proficiency and emotional connection.
Participants will explore how to apply voice modulation, body language, and role-play techniques—tools commonly used in professional theater—to create immersive lessons that engage students cognitively and affectively. The course equips teachers with the skills to design, rehearse, and implement theatrical lessons that encourage active participation, promote language fluency, and make learning memorable.
By the end of the course, educators will be able to apply this model to convert at least one lesson per month into a dynamic theatrical experience, improving student engagement and learning outcomes.
Neutral Spanish (Español Neutro)
Dates: September 26, 2025 | December 19, 2025 | March 27, 2026
Format: In-person
Description:
In multicultural educational settings, Spanish teachers—especially those in the United States—face the challenge of navigating a wide range of regional dialects and cultural variations within the language. The diversity of accents, combined with the need to use a clear, standard Spanish that is accessible to students from various backgrounds, often leads to uncertainty and difficulty in pronunciation and vocal modulation. Additionally, many American teachers struggle to culturally adapt and strike a balance between authenticity and comprehensibility in their Spanish instruction.
This course offers a practical approach to learning and teaching Neutral Spanish—a standardized form of Spanish free from strong regionalisms—which enhances clear and effective communication in international and educational contexts. Through focused exercises on pronunciation, vocal modulation, and intonation, participants will develop skills to neutralize accents and tailor their speech to be understood by Spanish speakers from all regions.
As with all our training, this course integrates theatrical games and educational theater techniques to create an engaging, interactive learning environment. These methods help participants internalize language patterns through embodied practice, making learning dynamic and memorable.
Designed to equip educators with concrete tools, the course builds confidence and linguistic competence, promoting a more inclusive and effective teaching environment. Upon completion, teachers will be prepared to apply techniques that foster a standard, neutral Spanish in their classrooms, facilitating cultural and linguistic integration for their students.
Inclusive Teaching: Applying DEI Principles in K-12 Schools
Format: In-person
Dates: October 31, 2025 | January 30, 2025 | April 24, 2025
Description:
In today’s diverse classrooms, K-12 educators face the complex challenge of creating learning environments that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive. Many teachers struggle to effectively apply Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles in their daily teaching practice, often due to limited training, uncertainty about implementation, or difficulty engaging students from varied backgrounds.
This course provides educators with practical strategies to embed DEI principles meaningfully into their classrooms. By exploring inclusive pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching, and equitable practices, participants will gain tools to foster respectful, supportive, and empowering learning environments for all students.
Unique to this training is the integration of theatrical games and educational theater techniques, which create an active, participatory learning space. These experiential methods allow educators to embody DEI concepts, practice real-world scenarios, and reflect deeply on their own biases and teaching approaches. The use of theater enhances engagement, supports diverse learning styles, and promotes lasting change in professional practice.
Through this course, teachers will develop a confident, practical approach to making their classrooms more inclusive and equitable, helping every student feel valued, heard, and supported.
